What Makes NC Mushrooms Different

NC Mushrooms begins as a farm. We cultivate fresh mushrooms in controlled grow rooms using clean culture practices and hardwood-based EcoSubstrate™ blocks, then harvest each crop at full maturity. After harvest, mushrooms are either sold fresh or gently dried and prepared into shelf-stable whole mushroom products, all grown and handled in North Carolina.

  • Clean Culture Cultivation

    Early stages of cultivation at NC Mushrooms focus on clean culture handling and careful spawn preparation. Cultures are maintained under filtered air and expanded using locally sourced grain to ensure healthy, consistent growth. This process supports strong mushroom development long before blocks enter the grow rooms.

    How We Protect Cultures 

  • NC EcoSubstrate™ System

    Our EcoSubstrate™ blocks combine hardwood pellets with North Carolina wheat and millet at carefully controlled moisture levels. Each block is prepared in clean conditions to support natural colonization of hardwood-based material, allowing mushrooms to develop on lignocellulosic substrates similar to those found in nature.

  • Whole Mushroom, Farm-Grown

    We work exclusively with mature, whole mushroom fruiting bodies grown on our farm. After harvest, mushrooms are either sold fresh or gently dried and milled into powder for capsules and other shelf-stable formats. No grain-based mycelium or filler material is used, only whole mushroom tissue grown and harvested by NC Mushrooms.

Fully Developed Reishi Fruiting Bodies

Hardwood grown Reishi developing naturally on EcoSubstrate blocks. Each fruiting body is allowed to complete its full growth cycle before harvest so the mushroom can fully express its natural structure and chemistry.

Gently Dried Whole Fruiting Bodies

After harvest the mushrooms are carefully dried at controlled temperatures to stabilize the tissue while preserving the natural compounds formed during growth.

Milled Whole Mushroom Powder

Once fully dried, our fruiting bodies are milled into a clean uniform powder. This whole mushroom powder preserves the complete natural structure of the mushroom and is the form we use in all of our finished products.
